Last year, I read Jon Acuff’s book “Quitter” during the start-up of Portland Boat Tours. His guide to transitioning from your day job to your dream job without it turning into a nightmare was fabulous. This year, I had the privilege to get an advanced copy of his newest book “START.” and it is perhaps even more amazing and inspiring.
You don’t need to have read Jon Acuff’s last bestseller “Quitter” to appreciate the value of “START.” There is nobody out there who doesn’t need this book! Who couldn’t use a little more awesome in their life? Who doesn’t need practical tools to deal with the fear and doubt we all face? Who wouldn’t like to finally do that thing you’ve always wanted to do? Who doesn’t want to triumph over the voices in their head telling them that they can’t? The keys to finally moving the needle in your life are in this book START.
Through Jon Acuff’s characteristically light-hearted and humorous style he delivers a profound summary of the stages any life must go through on the path from average to awesome. The most touching and impactful to me in my journey was his chapter on “guiding” which you might think would be the final coast downhill to the success of an awesome life but, as I found out, that road didn’t lead to awesome it led back to average (or even worse). Thanks Jon for steering me back toward awesome and away from a life headed toward a “has-been” or “once-was” resting on the laurels of a one-time success afraid to START again.
I started Portland Boat Tours and wrote a book last year. What are you going to start?
