Today marks my 38th birthday. Thankfully, my doctors have granted me a pass this evening to leave the hospital to properly celebrate at a nice dinner with my family.
My original goals were to be home to celebrate or even to be weened off the painkillers so that I could enjoy a beer. Now, I’m just thankful to be strong enough to do dinner. I’m very excited to be going home tomorrow anyway.
I’ve let a good number of my birthdays come and go without much thought to just how precious each year of life has been. This year has changed that. To have been successfully revived on the operating table and given a good prognosis for beating this cancer, I am beyond grateful.
I am so thankful and will no longer take for granted the opportunities another year of life will bring. Although the coming year is going to perhaps be the most difficult battle of my life, I welcome and appreciate the opportunity I’ve been given to be in that fight.
