Here’s a good video explaining the differences in CT, MRI, and PET scans. I’ve been unfortunate enough to require all three for my cancer. Today I will get a CT to check on the areas where they saw tumors last time (spine, lymph nodes, spleen, small intestine). The results of this scan will tell us if the chemo is doing its job. After two more chemo cycles (hopefully), I will get a PET scan to look at the metabolic activity of these areas to make sure any tumors are no longer active. This is a good explanation of why the oncologist would choose one technology over another:
