Today I made my triumphant return to the river. Six months ago I was in a rehab facility where they were teaching me to use a wheelchair. I didn’t know if I’d live to see this spring, ever walk again, or ever be able to launch and enjoy my boat again. Today, by God’s grace, I was able to enjoy an amazing spring day on the water.
I’ve also decided that Portland Boat Tours will re-launch this summer (in a somewhat limited engagement as my strength allows). For many (and for me as well) this represents a huge victory. It is symbolic of my healing and my longing to take back the things I enjoy from cancer’s grasp. This has been a long and painful road. I’m happy to be able to return to doing the things I love. All profits from my business this summer will be donated to the leukemia and lymphoma society in appreciation of the amazing treatment that has allowed me to be on the water this year.
Thank you all for your support through this process. “Are you going to be able to do boat tours this summer?” is by far the most frequently asked question I get. I’m happy to now answer YES and share that the profits from this landmark season are going to help others with cancer as well.
